6th Consortium Meeting

7th March, 2013, in The Institute of Geonics Av Cr in Ostrava (Czech Republic), a penultimate
consortium meeting took place, where Partners alternately presented their results. They were
included in third obligatory technical report sent to the group of reviewers. Organiser of the
meeting arranged very interesting trip to the area of closed coal mine in Landek Park.

5th Consortium Meeting

5th October, 2012, in The TyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG in Duisburg (Germany), another meeting
took place. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss all realized tasks, check completeness of
results and plan another actions spread over time needed for their realization according to the
schedule. After the business end all present Partners accepted, with great pleasure, the
invitation of Mr. Peter Liszio, the Director of ThyssenKrupp Steel in Schwelgen, who invited us
for viewing the coking plant and shared with his practical experience gained during the ten
years of management.

4th Consortium Meeting

17th April, 2012, in National Institute of Coal in Oviedo (Spain) another consortium meeting
took place. Realized tasks in the framework of tasks packets were discussed at the meeting. Part
of the meeting was dedicated to created database and its functioning scope. Another stage of
planned actions was discussed with division of tasks for oncoming months of project realization.
Mid-term report will be introduced to TGC2 working party in May, 2012. By courtesy of Ms.
Angeles G. Borry, PhD, we all had the pleasure to aquaint ourselves with main stream of
research, which are realized in National Institute of Coal in Oviedo, and to see laboratories of
CSIC-INCAR.

3rd Consortium Meeting

18th October, 2012 in The Institute of Geonics Av Cr in Ostrava (Czech Republic), another
consortium meeting took place, where results, acquired in past months of duration of the
project, were discussed. Moreover, all partners were introduced with designed database, which is
working at http://www.autel.cz/karbonPoland/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fkarbonPoland%2fDefault.aspx
The database, where all results acquired in the framework of RATIO-COAL are stored, will serve
in developing the tool necessery for further realization of tasks planned according to the
schedule. During the meeting a microscopy session took place, where new analysis of coke
porosity was presented, which was developed by the team from UGN and which was applied to the
RATIO-COAL Project.

2nd Consortium Meeting

18th April, 2011, in TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY, a.s., in Třinec (Czech Republic), another consortium
meeting of RATIO-COAL Project took place. Results of works, carried in the framework of tasks
packets realized in the first half-year of duration of the project, were discussed. Another
tasks for nearest half-year were discussed and planned, as well as the requirements concerning
the first technical report (Annual Report), which will be introduced to TGC2 working part in
May, 2011.

Kick-Off Meeting of RATIO-COAL Project Realization

16th November, 2010, RATIO-COAL kick off meeting took place.

The first consortium meeting of the RATIO-COAL Project took place in the rectorate of the
University of Silesia. The meeting had two stages. In the first stage, the Partners presented
their institutions. The second stage was focused on introducing the range of tasks, the way of
their realization by individual partners of the project, and discussing technical and financial
issues associated with realization of the project.

RATIO-COAL Project Kick-Off Meeting

RATIO-COAL Project Kick-Off Meeting

16th November, 2010, at 9.00AM, at the Rectorate of the University of Silesia (hall 29), a
Partner Kick-Off Meeting of “Improvement of coal carbonization through the optimization of fuel
in coking coal blends” (RATIO-COAL) will take place. University of the Silesia is the
coordinator of this project. Mrs. Iwona Jelonek, PhD, is the project manager.

In the framework of RATIO-COAL research works will be carried by six partner organizations that
make international consortium. These are: University of Silesia, Kombinat Koksochemiczny Zabrze
SA, Trinecke Zelezarny (Czech Republic), Institute of Geonics AS CR, National Institute of Coal
(Spain) and ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG (Germany).

The aim of the RATIO-COAL Project is the improvement of the coal carbonization quality. In the
framework of the project, there will be, among others: carried laboratory analases of coal
blends components from different areas of Europe, Canada and The Republic of Southern Africa. An
innovative method of forecasting the quality of metallurgical coke, which is used for production
of high quality steel. An introduction of monitoring, controlling and optimization system for
the process of preparation the coke fuel is alsa planned.

Achieved research results will have their use in steel and coke industry, and in superior and
academic institutions. Developing the innovative formula for forecasting the coke quality, which
will have an utilitarian character, is one of the key result of the project. Applying that
formula in the industry will contribute in the improvement of the quality of obtained coke, what
in consequence will have the influence on the quality of produced steel.

During the meeting the University of Silesia will be represented by the Prorector for Science and Economic Cooperation, Prof. of US Andrzej Kowalczyk, PhD.
