1 – Objectives (Objectives clearly stated in a concise manner using bullet points (½ page)).

  • The main objective of WP1 is analyses and selection of raw materials for coal coke blends. Coal fuels from  various European regions, Canada and South Africa will be considered from their accessibility and availability in coking processes point of view. The coal petrographic properties – in particular the reactive/inert ratio of coking coals and fuel blends, as well as their rank will be the main criterion for assessment of their behaviour during carbonization. Series of laboratory analyses will be provided for selection the most suitable coals for blending.
  • The second objective of WP1 is an investigation of addition of alternative fuels for effective utilization of industrial wastes in coking process..A number of selected waste fuels will be laboratory analysed for the best composition of the coal fuel blends.
  • The third objective of WP1 will be establishing of an interactive coking fuels database for optimization of coking coal blends in industrial processes. For both prime coking coals and other coals used for blends from Europe and countries exporting coals to Europe the database will be founded. This database will comprise results of Proximate and Ultimate analyses, coking properties as well as  petrographic data. The database of coal fuels and alternative fuels will be established together with specialized software tool.

1 – Objectives (Objectives clearly stated in a concise manner using bullet points (½ page)).

  • The main objective of WP2 is an elaboration of a new effective method of the best coking blend selection based on reactive/inert ratio of feed coal and its verification and validation. The database of coals properties received in WP1 will be the basis for the formula establishment.  The proposed formula should precisely predict quality of coke on the basis of content and properties of feed coal blend in relatively short time procedure. The validation of the elaborated formula by laboratory, semi-industrial and industrial tests is foreseen.
  • The second important objective of WP2 is an analysis of possibility of introduction of alternative fuels to the received optimal coal blends without deterioration of coking process and coke quality. Coke properties (strengths, hardness and stability) will be analysed for coking blend without and with addition of the alternative fuels.

1 – Objectives (Objectives clearly stated in a concise manner using bullet points (½ page)).The main objective of WP3 will be evaluation of coke quality. The particular objectives are:

  • to determine the optimal proportions of pore breadths and wall thickness to achieve desired coke strength and reactivity
  • to identify the inert, non carbonized large particles of fusinite and semifusinite negatively influencing the strength of coke. Trace back the type of particles responsible for the presence of untransformed or poorly transformed  particles in the coke
  • to establish optical parameters of the coke in relation to the strength and stability of produced cokes
